When using an automatic car battery charger…?
When using an automatic car battery charger can you charge it first then bring it out to your car and hook it up or must you have the charger attached to an electric socket as well as to your car battery simulateously? I have absolutley no idea how this works.
Let me clarify, do I need to remove the battery from my car in order to charge it? Where it is parked it is not near an electrical outlet for the charger to plug into.

Read the directions, if you have them. I think with a charger you need to have it plugged in.
it doesnt matter you just need the battery to get the juice!!
either way works Mel…but if re-hooking it up….the battery will have a charge so remember to connect the negative cable first to avoid sparking
If you are NOT near an electrical outlet than you will have to take the battery out and bring it to the battery charger
You can also get yourself some extension cords and bring the charger to the car to charge the battery while in the car,,this would be much easier.
if you have a regular battery charger listen to kitty. if you have the jump start charger ,you do have to charge it first then put the red + from the charger to the red + on the battery and the black – to the black – on the battery of the car. If your battery is completely dead it will have to be charged with a real charger.
What I think you want is a trickle charger that puts out about 1 amp. That would keep a battery charged over a period of time without sending too much charge. They make those in a style that you can mount near the battery and leave it connected. You then plug it into a power outlet when you want to charge your battery. What you want to avoid is overcharging the battery. With too much amperage, you will boil the electrolyte (acid and water) out of your battery and ruin it.
