It’s going to be very cold tonight, and I’m thinking about hooking up a trickle charger to my car battery?

Only if your battery is weak, the cold will thicken the oil making it harder to turn over even if the battery was on charge all night.
We don’t know where you are (in Canada). I’m in FL, U.S. 70 degrees here.
As long as the charger doesn’t over charge then its actually a good idea.
