is a insulated battery cable necessary to charge a (car) battery?
In the instructions for my (car) battery charger it says “attach a 24-inch long insulated
battery cable to NEGATIVE battery post” and then connect to charger’s negative cable to the the cable mentioned above.
Do I really need the 24-inch cable or can I just connect the charger’s negative cable to the battery’s negative post?
Thanks!
Thanks for your answers.

connect the charger to the batt. no need for the 24 incher. it is a waste of time and money! been doing this for 20 plus years.
Just connect it to the neg. on the battery.
Any cable connected to the car (positive) must be insulated to avoid short circuits. When charging a battery, hydrogen gas is released which is highly flammable. Caution must be used whenever battery hook-ups occur.
Just connect the nagative to the car somwhere.
I assume its a negative grounded battery.
As long as the battery is hooked up you can hook the negative to ground.
Posative to posative, ground to ground.
