Aluminum foil is on the other side of the rag. The bowl acts as one electrode and the foil the other. The closer the electrodes get to each other, the more aggressive the reaction, hence a thin rag acting as a buffer between the two. 12v 2 amps coming out of a car battery charger. I don&#039;t know what kind of wave the charger put out. Table salt, a whole lot, was the electrolyte.
