Car Batteries – Charging
OK, so we have covered some of the most common types of car batteries, now we can cover some of the styles of car battery charger for your information ready appetite.
Our first type of car battery charger is the Bulk charge variety, these send current at a predetermined safe rate to the car battery. This predetermined amount is usually in the range of value of eighty percent upwards to ninety percent of the total maximum charge the battery can hold.
This charge cycle then goes into Absorption charge mode, where the voltage remains at a consistent rate of flow, meanwhile the current slows down gradually until it matches the resistance of the now filling car battery.
The last stage of charge is sometimes called float charge or more commonly trickle or delta
V charge, where the V stands for volts. Hydrogen production is limited here for safety and then the total charge of the car battery is maintained at one hundred percent until the battery is disconnected, usually when ready for use.
Occasionally this stage is followed by a stage called Pulse or Pulse with modulation, where the car battery charger, if sophisticated enough, can determine the loss of charge within the battery itself. Then the car battery charger sends pulses of current into the battery to keep it in top charged state.
